The «Jacob»

The architecture of Hotel Louis C. Jacob effortlessly marries heritage with contemporary elegance. While the original mansion occupies its privileged position overlooking the River Elbe, a discreet underground passage beneath the Elbchaussee connects it to the modern extension. Together, the two buildings offer a collection of 66 beautifully appointed guestrooms and 19 luxurious suites.
A sense of timeless elegance defines every corner of the hotel. Each room and suite has been individually designed, possessing its own distinctive character while sharing a remarkably warm, residential atmosphere that recalls the comfort and refinement of an elegant private home.
The interiors are enriched by polished granite, sumptuous brocade fabrics, carefully restored Empire furnishings, exquisite hardwood pieces, works by celebrated Hanseatic artists and the sparkle of fine crystal, all contributing to an ambience of quiet sophistication.
Walk-in wardrobes pay subtle homage to the golden age of ocean travel, reinforcing the feeling that every room and suite is less a hotel accommodation than a beautifully appointed private residence.
The most coveted accommodations are undoubtedly those overlooking the Elbe. From their windows, guests enjoy uninterrupted views of majestic cruise liners, vast container ships and elegant sailing yachts gliding silently along the river—a captivating panorama that evokes the enduring romance of maritime travel.

While the Elbe-facing side of the hotel is animated by fresh river breezes and the graceful procession of passing ships, life unfolds at a gentler pace on the opposite side of the Elbchaussee. Here, within the hotel's contemporary extension, guests enjoy accommodation that is every bit as elegant as that of the historic mansion.
The modern building and its thoughtfully conceived interiors are no less impressive than the original house. To ensure seamless access between the two, a discreet underground passage has been created beneath the Elbchaussee, allowing guests to move effortlessly between the buildings regardless of Hamburg's famously unpredictable weather.
The guestrooms and suites in this quieter wing enjoy idyllic views over charming private gardens, elegant neighbouring villas and Hamburg's celebrated Wedding Church, creating an altogether more tranquil setting.
At Hotel Louis C. Jacob, sleeping, dreaming and unwinding become experiences in their own right. The renowned Impressionist **Max Liebermann** once made the hotel his home for several months while painting a series of views of the famous Lindenterrasse. One of these masterpieces now graces the elegant hotel lobby, while another can be admired in Hamburg's renowned Kunsthalle.

In tribute to the celebrated artist, the former Liebermann Room has been lovingly restored and once again made available to guests.
Art has always been an integral part of the Louis C. Jacob's identity. With a collection of around 400 works, the hotel is home to the largest private art collection in northern Germany, further reinforcing its reputation as one of Hamburg's most distinguished cultural and hospitality landmarks.

Culinary Moments

For connoisseurs of fine dining,  «Jacobs Restaurant» has long been regarded as one of Germany's most celebrated culinary destinations. Under the leadership of Thomas Martin, the restaurant has earned outstanding recognition in the world's most respected hotel and restaurant guides, firmly establishing itself among the international elite of gourmet cuisine.
Thomas Martin and his talented team present a contemporary style of cooking that is light, refined and wonderfully fresh, subtly inspired by French culinary traditions. Imaginative without ever becoming overly elaborate, each dish reflects a confident elegance that allows exceptional ingredients to take centre stage. Guests dine in magnificent surroundings, where lofty French doors frame sweeping views across the historic Lindenterrasse towards the River Elbe.
Carefully restored wall paintings, intricate stucco detailing and magnificent crystal chandeliers lend the dining room an atmosphere of timeless grandeur.
During the warmer months, service extends to the celebrated **Lindenterrasse**, originally created in 1791 by Daniel Louis Jacques. Shaded by its iconic avenue of mature lime trees, this historic terrace remains one of Hamburg's most enchanting places to dine, offering unforgettable views over the Elbe in a setting of remarkable beauty.
Exceptional cuisine, gracious hospitality and service delivered with effortless precision combine to create an experience that lingers long after the final course. It is a place that captivates every discerning traveller fortunate enough to discover it.

Another cherished institution within the hotel is Jacobs Bar. Throughout the day, it serves as a sophisticated meeting place where business travellers pause between appointments, resident guests gather for afternoon tea and old friends meet alongside new acquaintances. All the while, panoramic views across the River Elbe and the graceful procession of passing ships provide an ever-changing backdrop.
Located within the hotel's historic main building, the bar is renowned for its distinguished British-inspired décor. The talented bar team prepares an extensive selection of classic and contemporary cocktails to order, while afternoon tea is accompanied by an elegant assortment of handcrafted delicacies.
During the summer months, the experience extends onto the celebrated «Lindenterrasse», where coffee and tea can be enjoyed in the fresh riverside air beneath the shade of its historic lime trees. Those seeking a quieter retreat will find the hotel's inviting «Wohnhalle» equally enchanting, with its comfortable armchairs and welcoming fireplace offering the perfect setting in which to relax and linger.

Relaxation & Wellbeing

The hotel's wellness area offers a tranquil sanctuary dedicated to rest and rejuvenation. Reserved exclusively for resident guests and located within the contemporary wing of the property, this intimate retreat provides the perfect escape after a day spent exploring Hamburg.
Facilities include a traditional Finnish sauna, a soothing whirlpool and a peaceful relaxation lounge furnished with comfortable sun loungers. Plush bathrobes, slippers and towels are thoughtfully provided, alongside a selection of premium bathing amenities and refreshing beverages, ensuring every detail contributes to an effortless sense of wellbeing.
Following a restorative sauna session, there is no finer place to unwind than on one of the inviting loungers, where soft cushions and cosy woollen blankets create an atmosphere of complete comfort and calm.
Guests wishing to remain active will find a well-equipped fitness area with modern cardio machines, while the hotel also offers bicycles for exploring the surrounding neighbourhood. Scenic walking and jogging routes begin just beyond the hotel, and a number of excellent golf courses and tennis clubs can be found within easy reach.

A Lasting Impression

It is not without reason that Hamburg is so often described as Germany's most beautiful city. While the vibrant energy of its centre has an undeniable appeal, there is something altogether more captivating about life along the banks of the Elbe. Here, the pace slows, the air feels fresher and time seems to unfold a little more gently—a rare luxury in itself.
Set amidst elegant villas and beautifully landscaped gardens, Hotel Louis C. Jacob enjoys one of the city's most enviable locations. Guests fortunate enough to stay in one of the Elbe-facing rooms will find it difficult to look away from the ever-changing panorama beyond the windows. The constant procession of ships, together with the tranquil beauty of the river, creates an atmosphere that is nothing short of mesmerising.
Throughout the hotel, understated elegance is complemented by genuine warmth and gracious hospitality, giving the property a character that feels both authentic and deeply personal. Thomas Martin's exceptional cuisine provides yet another compelling reason to visit, while the timeless ambience of Jacobs Restaurant ranks among the most memorable dining experiences Hamburg has to offer.

For me, Hotel Louis C. Jacob is a property defined by character, quiet sophistication and heartfelt hospitality. It is a place to which I look forward to returning, and one that I can recommend without reservation to anyone seeking one of Germany's most charming luxury hideaways.
